Winnersh Summer Fete

Sunny Summer Fete Success

On Saturday 17th June many Winnersh and Sindlesham residents, and lots from further afield, gathered for our annual community get-together and enjoyed all the fun of a traditional family fete. The sun shone brightly for the fete’s tenth anniversary, after some disappointing weather over the past two years, and made the afternoon all the more enjoyable.

Fifty six local charities, voluntary groups and businesses provided entertainment for the many hundreds of people who turned out to support the fete and free attractions included a climbing wall, bouncy castles for all ages, a mega-slide and the ever popular Circus Scene.

Allotments Available

The Parish Council rents out more than 75 allotments at its site off the Reading Road. Plots are now available for Winnersh residents who wish to become allotment holders.

Some of the allotments have been split into half-size plots which are more manageable for some established allotment holders and provide opportunities for newer ones to get started without taking on a whole plot (maintaining an allotment is hard though rewarding work!). The annual rent is only £35 for a full plot and £20 for a half plot.

For more information or to apply for a plot contact the Parish Finance & Administration Officer.

Become a Parish Councillor?

Winnersh Parish Council has two vacancies for councillors caused by recent resignations and it would like to co-opt two Winnersh residents to fill these vacancies.

The council sits monthly on the second Tuesday of the month. There are three Standing Committees and all meetings are held in the John Grobler Room at the Winnersh Community Centre at 19.45. New councillors will be expected to sit on at least one of the Committees and will also be invited to contribute to the two main events organised by the council, the Winnersh Summer Fete in June and the Christmas Lights Switch On in December.

So if you are interested in serving your local community then please register your interest with the Parish Clerk on 0118 978 0244 or at clerk@winnersh.gov.uk before the end of June.

Spring edition of Winnersh Matters
newsletter published

The Spring 2017 edition of the community newsletter for Winnersh and Sindlesham was delivered to most homes in the parish in early June. Or you can read the newsletter here. We hope that you will find it informative and of interest - if you have any feedback please send it to winnershmatters@winnersh.gov.uk.

An impressive display of birds of prey, Morris dancing and a dog agility display were joined by local groups to entertain in the arena and our thanks to those who came forward to compete in the wheelbarrow races.

The Scouts almost sold out of burgers, hot dogs and drinks while the Winnersh Churches provided cakes and cream teas in the hall.

This year Just Around the Corner and Winnersh in Need benefitted from our central fund raising while all the voluntary groups kept there own ‘profits’ which ran into thousand of pounds. Our thanks go to Prospect Estate Agency, Balfour Beatty and the Wokingham Borough Council Tenant Involvement Team for jointly sponsoring the fete with Winnersh Parish Council, and to Earley ATC for managing the car park.

Annual Accounts - Inspection

The Parish Council’s annual accounts have been completed and will be submitted for audit at the end of July. Prior to that they may be inspected between 19 June and 18 July on application to the Parish Clerk with reasonable notice.
