Winnersh Summer Fete attracted well over a thousand people this year. Over 50 local
groups and small businesses provided a fun-packed afternoon for young and old alike.
Entertainment included Morris dancing, a tag rugby demonstration, the ever popular
dog agility display and the wheelbarrow races, introduced for the first time last
year, proved to be great fun.
Musical accompaniment was provided by a jazz band, sponsored by Prospect Estate Agency,
and by Tim Valentine on keyboard in the bar.
The enthusiasm of stallholders and visitors to the fete was undiminished by a couple
of sharp showers and the fete raised a record amount of money (over £1200) for its
selected charities Guide Dogs and Dementia UK.This was greatly helped by a silent
auction for prizes donated by Porsche Reading (a Porsche VIP Driving Experience at
Silverstone) and Bearwood Lakes Golf Club (a 4-ball golf day).
John Southgate, chairman of the fete organising committee said "I was really pleased
with the way the day went. Despite the weather we had a fantastic turnout of both
participants and visitors and managed to raise record amounts for our main charities.
And everyone I spoke to said that they would be back next year!"
